Q: WHY would I want to go to the expense of using Key Kops? WHAT would this accomplish?
A: FIRST, A HORROR STORY! A resident locksmith for a large institution had seen our products, and approached his superiors about purchasing them for their key control system. Being thrifty, they declined to take on the modest amount to be spent, which would have been about $2,000 in this case. A few months later, a key went missing. This necessitated rekeying ALL of their locks, with a total bill of over $80,000. The management then insisted that the locksmith get Key Kops to control their keys and minimize such expense in the future. How much does a lost key cost? IT CAN BE QUITE A BIT!

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING POINTS:

  • CONTROL Using a Key Kop means that the keys are secure from being separated, and being subject to loss or pilfering.
  • CONTROL The Key Kop allows keys to be easily rearranged or replaced by AUTHORIZED PERSONS ONLY. The Key Kop rings may be unlocked with the proper key, and keys serviced as need, then relocked to make the ring secure again.
  • LESS EXPENSIVE IN THE LONG RUN The Key Kops are reusable. There are no expensive seals to replace each time, nor welding or soldering to be done. They are more efficient on an overall cost basis and on a time basis.
  • SECURITY The Key Kop provides a tamper-evident way to keep keys together. Its simple, solid body construction means something must be deliberately cut to remove keys. Tampering would be evident at a glance.
  • VERSATILE The many sizes, the choice of locks to suit your security needs, and the colored boots that allows a Key Kop to be assigned to a specific area or task make them widely applicable.

Q: What kind of keys can be put on a Key Kop?
A: Both styles will accommodate keys with at least a 5/32″ diameter hole. Keys with smaller holes will have to be drilled, but the units will accept most keys.

Q: Are there smaller Key Kop units?
A: NO. These are the only styles that we have in production. If you have a special request or need we may be able to produce it for you depending on the style.

Q: What is the difference between Key Kop I and Key Kop II?
A: Key Kop I is made with a flexible cable. To protect the cable, a stainless steel overwrap is placed over it. This avoids abrasion from keys being slid along the cable, and also limits how tight a radius the cable may be bent into. This will help extend the life of the product. Cables can NOT be switched or replaced in the field. One end remains captive and is set in place with a press.
The Key Kop II is a stainless steel shackle in five different sizes. The shackles ARE interchangeable and added shackles may be purchased alone.

Q: Can I order on-line?
A: We now sell our patent pending Key Kop locking key rings online at http://www.keykop.com/.

Q: How much do the KEY KOP units weigh?
A: The units will weigh between 4 ounces and 5.5 ounces according to what size. The true limit comes when keys are added. A 12″ cable with 50 keys might come in at 3 or 4 pounds but the KEYS are what add all the weight.

Q: Why are keys sold separately?
A: When buying padlocks, they are generally furnished with two keys each. Imagine trying to control 100 padlocks, with 200 keys lying about! Many orders for Key Kop involve a significant number, keyed alike. The idea of the Key Kop is to control keys and too many would defeat the purpose, so keys are sold separately so that only sufficient keys are on hand to control the system.

Q: How long does it take to have an order shipped?
A: Most items ship in 24 to 48 hours! Small orders placed early in the day often ship that afternoon.
Orders requiring special attention, such as matching a lock code, or other adaptation may take longer. Of course, very large orders may take up to several weeks.

Q: Where do I send units for repair?
A: YOU DON’T!! YOU MUST CALL FOR A RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER! AT THAT POINT YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH THE INFORMATION ON HOW TO RETURN A PRODUCT
Packages received without an RMA number will be returned to sender at your cost.

Q: Why are there colored boots on the units?
A: Some organizations will organize their key rings so that one color is for one shift and a different color is for another. Or perhaps one color is assigned to Housekeeping, One to maintenance and yet another to security personnel. Boots are available separately and may be changed at a later date.

Q: What is the difference between the locks offered?
A: Tubular locks are the least expensive, so are an attractive buy, but they are also the least secure, and may be subject to manipulation by talented individuals. Trigard locks are triple bitted. Duo locks are secure. They have a double bitted key that is difficult to pick, yet still inexpensive.
Medeco are the big guns!! Unpickable, difficult to drill, they are the most secure small lock available.
Choose your lock according to the security level you need to satisfy.
