LOCKS
Monarch offers five locks for use in our coin boxes or with our extensions. This allows you to pick the lock that best suits your security needs.
TUBULAR LOCKS
These locks are inexpensive and very common throughout the coin operated equipment industry. They offer minimal security at minimal cost. The downside is that there are lock picks that can pick this style quickly and, once set, the pick can open other locks of the same code as quickly as they can be opened with a key. For supervised areas, or for protection of low value products, this lock is adequate.
ALSO KNOWN AS “ACE” OR “ACE TUBULAR” LOCKS!
TUBULAR LOCKS
NOVA LOCKS
These locks cost only slightly more than the tubular style, but offer greater security. These are disc lock, and though the operation is for turn applications, the key is actually turned through 180 to operate. The lock presents a smaller opening so that heavy tools cannot be easily inserted to torque the lock. On the negative, vibration may miss-align the discs, requiring care at key insertion, and the smaller key will wear quicker, especially if used roughly.

NOVA LOCKS
TRI-GARD LOCKS
The Tri-Gard lock is similar to the Duo and the Greenwald Sentinel, and cost very little more than the Nova. This is a fourteen wafer lock which is Triple Bitted. That is, the key moves wafers from three different levels. This provides excellent resistance to picking. The key-bow is generous and the key itself is thicker than most keys, which allows the removal of coin boxes with less strain.

TRI-GARD LOCKS
MEDECO LOCKS
These are top of the line cam locks. The cores and bodies are machined from solid stock, rather than cast. At various strategic points there are small hardened bars to foil drills. The pins work two ways, lifting to the correct position but also being turned by the special angular cuts. These features, and tight manufacturing tolerances, produce the premier lock for laundry, vending and amusement machines.

MEDECO LOCKS
High security lock with unique flat face design that helps defy drilling and pulling attacks.
Unique key provides added security as no key blanks or key cutting machines are available.
Machined from solid metals and Made in the USA since 1959.

EXTENSIONS
The charts below will help you to identify the more common ones in use. Should you have an extension that does not conform to any of the parts below, you may be able to define what you need by using the information on the box which show the dimension.
360 turn extensions cannot use Nova locks.
Quarter turn style may use any of the five locks we offer. See LOCKS for more information.
Monarch Extensions are secured to the lock stem by means of set screw. On turn extensions, these may be loosened to provide a tighter or looser fit. This also allows the use of replacement locks without the need to replace the extension as well.
If your current extensions are crimped to the end of the lock, you will need to purchase the extension with your lock. If your extension is screwed onto the lock stem and locked in place by a roll pin through a cross-hole, you should also get the extension when you purchase the lock.
There are very old machines that use the UL lock, these are no longer available. The diameter of the body of the lock is 7/8″ rather than the standard 3/4″. We have an adapter kit to convert them to current style locks.
There are also some older locks which have a female thread in the end and the shaft screws INTO the lock and secured with set screws. These must be ordered as complete units. That lock style is no longer available and the shafts cannot be used with new lock.
For really odd applications there is a coupling we offer without locks that allows one end to be threaded onto the lock. (All of the locks have a non-standard thread, 9/32nds-28) The other end is threaded with a standard 5/16-18 thread to receive an all-thread rod that you can cut to your desired length. Part number EXTC-01S comes with the set screws.
The Sketch below illustrates some of the more common extensions. This is NOT an exhaustive list. Some recent additions may not be shown. Please call with your needs.
